Mommy Moments: Jabbering in Public

At first glance, you'd think I'm just an ordinary lady shopping in Target at 11am on a weekday. I walk down all the aisles I won't make a purchase from but browse anyway just for fun. If you got closer you would hear one side of a pretty simple conversation - maybe it's just a best friend on the line listening to me talk about Target's many wonders. When you got close enough to get a good look, you'd realize that there isn't a phone in my hand (or a blue tooth in my ear)... would you think that I was crazy? If you looked a bit closer you would see that in my basket my little four month old boy is hanging on my every word while I jabber on about nothing.

The other day, as I was walking through Target I found myself talking to our son about the colors on the items I was putting in our basket, all the "pretty lights," and all the fun items that he would enjoy when as he gets older (ie Legos with his daddy). Though I might have seemed like a crazy lady from afar, I was in fact experiencing such joy seeing my boy smile as I showed him the striped onesies I was buying him for summer!

I love that our outings now include interaction instead of being a nap time for baby boy. I love seeing his smiles, watching him react to ladies that want to say hi, and hearing the jingle of his giraffe as I pick items off the shelf.

Each stage of Motherhood has been awesome so far and boy, do these boys change fast!

snazzy sheets (and comforter and pillows)

We haven't taken much care in renovating or redecorating our bedroom since it is out of sight, out of mind from the rest of the house but the time has finally come and we are ready to start doing some work upstairs.

When we moved in we just picked up what we had in our old apartment and set it down in the new house, no thought involved and not much care taken. In the beginning we decided that things were nice enough and it was just the place that we sleep and dress, not a lot of hang time upstairs. Now, we are ready to adjust our view and make it just as lovely and cozy at the rest of the house!

The room is a bit odd due to the fact that it's a bungalow. The ceiling is angled because of the roof, which creates lots of hassles that aren't typical, but we are excited about what could happen with color and depth!

As you can see above, our bedding was fine - not a lot of character and kind of "eh" (to us at least). For the most part the room around the bed needs to be revamped, as you can see when looking at the undecorated built-in, but the bedding was our starting point!

I made my way to Target, my first stop for most things home decor related (second only to Home Goods), to see if there were any signs of a good deal!

I ended up walking out with a new comforter and shams (both Threshold), a new set of sheets (Thomas O'Brien), and a new fitted sheet for the box spring (RE). We use a fitted sheet over our box-spring instead of a skirt for the bed.

Target has some cool designers represented in their home decor line (my favorite is currently Nate Berkus) and the Threshold brand is always good for a nice piece or two (or three, etc!).

Overall, we like the new tone the bedding sets in the room. A little more "grown up," if bedding can represent such a thing!

Mmmmmm... look at that texture. I mean really, hubba hubba! I liked the color, we always like grey in our bedroom, but I loved the shabby chic and yet classic look of this comforter.

And calling all lovers of pattern and texture, don't you just love this combination!? Well, I do! The sharp graphic design of the Thomas O'Brien sheets on the left perfectly complements the softer Threshold comforter on the right. Thankfully Rob is also down with this bedding change - I definitely made an effort to keep my girly side out of these decisions. After all, it's his room too!

We hope you like the change! We have only created a small difference with the bedding, but it's definitely a start.

As always, thank you for following along!
Until next time,
Lindsey

**The decorative pillow on the bed is going to be changed out once I finish my next project! Stay posted!

house flow and rugs

It's very fun to look around the house and start to see a cohesive flow from room to room. Each room has a piece of it's own that makes a pop but all in all the rooms work together (thank goodness!). We are beginning to feel settled here and most of our rooms are completely livable!

We haven't painted and the white walls are starting to bother me, but we have talked about it and we want to be very sure what color we want before we take the time to paint properly. Since it's such a task to really do a great job, we will probably wait for another month to paint the main areas. Bedrooms/sparerooms/basement might come earlier.

I just wanted to show you some of my favorite views in the house - from room to room so you can start to feel the flow like we do!

Photo 1: The first is from the living room to the dining room. The full view (more than just the floors) is much nicer but we aren't done decorating and I don't want to give anything away before we are finished. I love the way the two rugs look with the hardwood floors. Please don't mind the pukey green chair cushions, those are on our list.
Photo 2: The second photo is from the hallway entrance to the living room looking down the hall into the spare room. The hallway is shaping up with a couple of photos and art pieces and the spare room (sneak peak) is almost done! We will have a post about that room after all the spare boxes, etc. are moved out.

I also wanted to show you the rugs I have found for the house. I was never a big fan of area rugs but as soon as you buy a house with all wood floors you become a #1 fan almost immediately!! So far I have only paid full price for one of the rugs that we have in our home - honestly, a good price makes a lovely rug even lovelier still!

Row 1: Left - Dining Room Rug, Home Goods
             Right - Hallway Rug, Target
Row 2: Left - Kitchen Rug, Home Goods/Marshalls
Right - Living Room Rug, Target (50% off!)
Row 3: Spare Room Rug - hand-me-down (FREE!)

For now, that's all we have to share but there is plenty more to come!

until then, Lindsey
